War Haunted (Warren Ellis)

Re-post from Warren Ellis. The photo's get cut off for some reason :(

These are, I’m told, the work of one Sergei Larenkov, and they are wonderful. He’s reshot WW2-era photographs in the present day, from their original perspectives, and then faded the original in. Just look:

The effect is similar to those occasional freak photographs purported to capture ghosts on film.

I prefer to imagine a WW2-era photographer developing his or her prints, and discovering strange colour images bleeding in around the edges of their shots.

Obey Giant (Images of Dissent)

Just read a great article about Shepard Fairey (creator of Obey) that made me go back and rediscover the strange and interesting recycled pieces he has done. Since there are so very many I will just post my favorites. I created a few collages to condense things. Enjoy.

San Francisco Opium Session circa 1900

This rare photo was taken in a San Francisco home around 1900. Typical of the decadence to be found in the city at the time, these upper middle-class residents have invited a Chinese opium smoker into their home to prepare pipes for what would have been a dreamy, day-long session. Confirmed opium smokers of the period learned to prepare their own pipes -- a difficult process that required much practice. For more historical photos of opium smokers as well as examples of antique opium accoutrements, visit www.OpiumMuseum.com

Patina Statue Couple Orange Brick Road

A couple of street performers in Den Haag, Holland dressed in copper patina outfits that stand still as statues for money. This was originally Black and White then I colored it in with Photoshop. If you visit my Flicker you can see the different color versions.

Giant statue of a face I found in an alley way in Den Haag, Holland. I took the liberty to color everything a copper patina tone and give the eyeless statue human eyes. Enjoy.
